Small Groups for Students

We offer many different Groups for the students to assist them with various skills. Some of the skills we work on include:

Friendship making skills: how to include others, how to ask to join others, conversations, taking turns, being first or going last, winning or losing, self-esteem, etc.

Coping Skillsand Stress Management: taking some deep breaths (in through the nose, out through the mouth), counting to ten, talk to someone about how you are feeling, taking a break, thinking a happy thought, getting a drink of water, etc.

Anger Management: being aware of what makes us angry, using our coping skills to calm down, doing something that makes us happy again, understanding that we are responsible for our actions when we are angry, learning what to do next time, knowing who we can go to for help with our problem, etc.

We offer various types of groups at school including Social skills groups, Lunch groups and Recess groups. In social skills groups the children receive direct instruction to learn the social skill. During the lunch and recess groups we practice these skills. We use role-plays, videos, puppets, and games in our groups. Many of our groups run for six weeks. The children enjoy coming to group and having fun while practicing their social skills and making some new friends.
